Personally I think the Savage is large enough for 300-400 mile rides. If you want to go for a bigger bike, I think the V-Star would be a better choice than the Maruader if you can't go all the way and move up to a Harley. I'm a big fan of belt drive. Shaft drive is second best and I have no plans to ever own a chain drive road bike again.
Sit on it. Tilt it back and forth a few times to see how heavy it is and what the balance is like. Get an idea what it would feel like on the road. Test drive it if you can. Then make up your own mind.
